Enhanced Recovery after Orthopedic Surgery (ERAS) pathways utilizing perioperative and postoperative multimodal pain therapies may offer valuable gains in institutional and patient outcomes including reductions in lengths of stay, improved physical therapy, increased throughput and reduced levels of resources needed for treatment. Multidisciplinary partnerships including orthopedic surgery, anesthesiology, nursing, PT/OT, and administration are needed to effectively bridge a change of service from inpatient to the outpatient setting.

This dynamic session will explore ways to reduce the cost of the episode of care for Total Joint Arthroplasty, while delivering best in class care for patients. We will discuss the challenge in medicine for orthopaedic surgeons to balance their clinical practice with the practicality of running a profitable business.

Topics will include role of robotic assistance in TKA, outpatient TJA, patient selection, elimination of complications, pain management, blood management, rehabilitation considerations, home health care requirements, reimbursement realities and clinical outcomes for both total hip and total knee replacement.
